Hunter Votes to Hold AG Holder in Contempt of Congress

Washington, D.C. —Today, Congressman Duncan Hunter voted in favor of a House-passed resolution holding Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for his refusal to cooperate with a Congressional investigation into Operation Fast and Furious.

“The Attorney General has been given opportunity-after-opportunity to cooperate with the ongoing investigation into Fast and Furious,” said Hunter.  “He’s withheld information while suggesting that the investigation is politically-motivated and nothing more than a distraction.  The fact is that the failed Fast and Furious Operation occurred under his leadership.  It’s a fact that a Border Patrol agent was killed, as a result.  And it’s a fact that numerous documents—critical to the investigation—have been withheld from Congress.  The Attorney General holds responsibility and today’s action was a significant step towards holding him accountable.

“The Attorney General could have prevented today’s action and embarrassment by cooperating with the investigation.  He chose not to cooperate—and for this, the House did the right thing by voting to hold him in contempt.”
