Economy and Jobs
Job creation and turning our economy around is my top priority in Congress. As a former small business owner, I know what it takes to run a business, make a payroll and create jobs. Since coming to Congress, I have focused on introducing and supporting legislation that will create an environment that allows the private sector to thrive and create jobs. While there have been positive economic signs lately, we cannot turn our attention away from this critical issue.
A bill I introduced called the Three Kids Mine Remediation and Reclamation Act was recently signed into law. This bill would create local jobs through the clean up and redevelopment of the dangerous, abandoned Three Kids Mine Site in Henderson. I urged my colleagues to support this bill in a speech on the House floor. Click the image below to watch the video.
Other legislation I am pushing that will improve our economy is called the Jobs Originating through Launching Travel or JOLT Act. The JOLT Act will expand access to visa services and improve an outdated visa processing system that has prevented travelers and tourists from coming to the U.S. By attracting international travelers, who on average spend $4,000 per visit, more jobs will be created and Nevada's economy will get a much-needed shot in the arm. In fact, it is estimated that the JOLT Act could attract as many as 98 million more visitors to the U.S., create one million American jobs, and generate as much as $859 billion in revenue by 2020.
