Health
As the representative of Nevada's Third District and a physician, health care issues are very important to me. We face a variety of challenges when it comes to increasing access to quality, affordable medical care and ensuring that those who want to buy health insurance can do so. I also have a responsibility to make sure that seniors have access to the medical care that was promised to them. Protecting Medicare for current seniors and preserving it for future generations will continue to be a focus of mine in Congress.
I have always believed that we should create incentives for people to purchase insurance and participate in the greatest health care system in the world rather than punish them for not complying with a government mandate. I spoke about this concept in a recent video that you can watch by clicking the image below.
I maintain my belief that the best way to improve our health care system is to replace the health care law with reforms that put the patient first and increase access to health care. In fact, I have twice introduced legislation that would do just that: maintaining the key consumer protections while repealing the laws onerous mandates and taxes.
In addition, I have introduced legislation to address the single greatest threat to the Medicare system: the Sustainable Growth Rate or SGR. The bipartisan legislation permanently repeals the flawed Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) formula and sets out a clear path toward comprehensive reforms of Medicare payment and delivery systems. The Medicare Physician Payment Innovation Act will give seniors the predictability and stability of Medicare coverage they deserve.
