Mica Lands Three Key Transportation Subcommittees in 113th Congress

Washington, DC – Congressman John L. Mica (Winter Park, FL) today was named to serve on three subcommittees of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.  They are the Subcommittees on Highways and Transit; Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials; and Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management.  As former Chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, he will also serve as one of the most senior Members of the panel.

“I am pleased to continue my work with these three key positions on the Transportation Committee.” Mica said of the selection.  “With congested and crumbling highways, a Soviet style Amtrak passenger service and agencies like GSA and FEMA wasting billions of hard earned taxpayer money, we have a great deal of work ahead of us.  I look forward to finding solutions for America and ensuring government accountability to taxpayers.”

In the 112th Congress as Chairman of the Transportation Committee, Mica successfully passed some of the most significant measures adopted in that Congress including a major highway and surface transportation bill, an FAA bill, a Coast Guard reauthorization, a pipeline safety bill and a record number of other legislative initiatives.  Mica also led successful investigations of GSA, TSA and EPA.

Additionally, Mica was recently named Chairman of the Subcommittee on Government Operations of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

Congressman Mica continued, “Chairing this investigative panel will allow me to continue my work in pursuing government waste and inefficiency with very broad jurisdiction.”  On Oversight and Government Reform, Mica was also named to serve as a member of the National Security Subcommittee.
