Preparations are underway, near 2nd St and Washington Ave SW, for the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial (www.avdlm.org). Memorial construction in and around the footprint of the site (from the southwest of Washington Avenue and northeast of 2nd Street SW) will continue through the fall of 2014. Minor street and lane closures will occur as construction work continues. Pedestrians traveling between the Rayburn and Ford House Office Buildings should use the route below. This route will remain in place for the remainder of the Memorial construction through the fall of 2014.
Please continue to allow for an additional five minutes in your commute between the Ford and Rayburn House Office Buildings. Please refrain from using cell phones while crossing streets, follow any posted signage, pay special attention to pedestrian signals and heed to traffic control officers or US Capitol Police Officers.

New walking path beginning October 6, 2014:
To support the dedication ceremony for the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial:
- Washington Avenue, SW Northbound will close on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 6 p.m., effectively closing Washington Avenue, SW, between C Street SW and Independence Avenue
- Washington Avenue, SW Southbound between Independence and Delaware Avenue will close on Sunday, October 5 between 6 a.m. and 1 p.m.
- Washington Avenue should reopen completely no later than Monday, October 6 at 5 a.m.
Second Street, SW, from Independence Avenue, SW to C Streets will close on Thursday, October 2 at 5 a.m. and will reopen on Monday, October 6 at 5 a.m.
Independence Avenue, SW – in both directions – will be closed from First Street, SW to Third Street, SW with all Westbound traffic diverted North on First Street, SW, from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 5
Appropriate signage will be posted to provide directions for detours that will be in place during this period. Setup for this event will affect all streets surrounding the memorial. People traveling in this immediate area during the times noted should allow for extra travel time due to the traffic restrictions associated with this event.
Ceremony schedule
