Paul is considered a leader in Congress on energy policy given his background as an engineer as well as his experience in New York State – both at NYSERDA and as the Chair of the New York State Assembly Energy Committee. He believes in an “all of the above” strategy for domestic energy production, but he knows that drilling for oil and gas alone will never meet America’s energy needs. That is why Paul has promoted policies that invest in clean energy and local small businesses as well as energy efficiency. America is in a global race on clean energy, just as we were during the Space Race with Sputnik. We must compete to win – the stakes are simply too high to come in second place.

    ALBANY – Congressman Tonko will again visit the Port of Albany to receive an informal tour of the transportation processes of turbines, generators and associated power generation equipment manufactured in Schenectady and exported to other nations via the port. Later that day, Tonko will discuss climate change, the recent Climate Summit in New York City, and how the area can benefit economically from clean energy manufacturing like the turbines produced in the Capital Region.

  • Tonko Urges Speaker to Cancel Recess, Cites Large To-Do List for House

    WASHINGTON – Congressman Paul Tonko (D-NY) joined 42 of his colleagues this week in asking Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) to cancel recess, citing an extensive list of tasks left untouched by the House Majority. The U.S. House of Representatives stood in recess for 38 days from August 1 to September 8 and, after only eight days of work, has recessed again until November 12. Tonko released the following statement in support of the letter he sent to Boehner:
