Himes statement on gun control sit-in in House of Representatives

Jun 22, 2016

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Jim Himes (CT-04) released the following statement today:

By taking part in this sit-in, the rest of the Connecticut delegation and I are keeping our promise to end the silence and speak out in favor of sensible gun laws.

Led by Representative John Lewis, who knows more about the power of protest than anyone else in the House, we will hold the floor as long as we can and continue to push for votes to expand background checks and keep guns out of the hands of terrorists. These measures have overwhelming support from the American public and it is morally indefensible for Congress to deny them a vote.
