Congressman Evan Jenkins

Representing the 3rd District of West Virginia

Defense and National Security

As the son of a World War II veteran, Congressman Evan Jenkins is a proud supporter of our nation’s military. He understands that our armed services are critical in protecting our nation, maintaining peace, and safeguarding our interests abroad. Evan knows it is the duty and responsibility of Congress to prioritize how our nation’s tax dollars are spent, and there is no greater priority than the protection of our country through a strong national defense.

As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, Evan works to ensure that our military is sufficiently funded by increasing defense spending. He will continue to ensure that our troops have the tools and resources they need to maintain the best-equipped and most capable military in the world. Evan also voted for the Fiscal Year 2016 National Defense Authorization Act, which continues the work to upgrade our military to continue being the best in the world.

Our nation’s military members and their families have made great sacrifices to protect the lives of countless individuals. Evan will work to guarantee that service members, as well as their families, have access to the services they need when returning to civilian life. He has voted to stop this administration’s cuts to our nation’s defense programs while striving for sensible balance between maintaining a strong military force and spending the American taxpayers’ dollars wisely.

Congressman Jenkins opposes any agreement or legislation that would enhance Iran’s capability to obtain a nuclear weapon, including the recent Iran nuclear agreement. This agreement would destabilize the Middle East and pose a grave danger to our allies in the region, especially Israel. Evan has visited Israel, met with its leaders and observed firsthand the importance of maintaining its safety and security. He voted no in the House on the Iran deal in September.

Just a few weeks ago, I was honored to be part of a congressional delegation to the Middle East to learn more about the terms and conditions of President Obama’s nuclear agreement with Iran. What I saw, heard, and experienced reaffirmed my strong belief that the president has negotiated an irresponsible deal with the world’s leading sponsor of terror, one that will jeopardize the security of our nation and our allies.
