Bordallo Comments on DoD Policy Regarding Transgender Servicemembers

Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo today issued the following statement on the Department of Defense policy on transgender servicemembers.

“Secretary of Defense Ash Carter announced clarifications to the Department of Defense’s transgender policy, effectively allowing transgender servicemembers to step out of the shadows and continue their service openly”, said Congresswoman Bordallo. “Reforms like this to our personnel policies have a tremendous impact on our readiness and open doors where they had once been closed, without undermining the core missions of our Armed Forces. They make our military more inclusive and thus stronger and I am proud that we continue to move forward as a nation. This will affect many personally, including myself, because now a former military fellow who served in my office is finally comfortable sharing a story that will allow others to find support and thrive as they are.”
