Conroe Courier: Brady Briefing: Work, not welfare, is what works

This is hard to believe, but it's been twenty years since Congress last reformed welfare. A new report from the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee that I lead confirms the best path forward out of dependence on government is through work – a job. Our report found the 1996 reforms championed by Republicans that required work for people on cash welfare were even more successful than earlier thought. They helped more low-income families earn their way out of poverty, and kept them out of poverty even through the recent financial crisis, than people with no work requirement. READ MORE

Washington Examiner: Congress angry with EU's $14.5 billion Apple tax 'grab'

Kevin Brady, the Texas Republican who is chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, called the European Commission's decision "a predatory and naked tax grab." While some liberal U.S. tax analysts have faulted the Obama administration for siding with Apple and resisting an EU determination that Ireland unfairly helped the company, top Democratic lawmakers voiced opposition to the decision. KTSA: Republicans Adding To Pressure Over Clinton Foundation

Republicans in Congress are adding to the pressure on the Clinton Foundation. Among them, Houston-area Congressman Kevin Brady–who is calling on the State Department to cooperate with an investigation launched by the House Oversight Committee. “Secretary of State John Kerry should immediately turn over to Congress any and all information on State Department workers who also worked for the Clinton Foundation” Brady said. Conroe Courier: AARP questions Brady on Social Security

Congressman Kevin Brady wants a fair and simple Social Security and tax system that will sustain itself through generations to come. On Friday, Brady, R-The Woodlands, expressed those views to AARP Texas members during a town hall event at The Woodlands Methodist Church. The AARP invited Brady, who serves as the House Ways and Means Committee chairman, to the “Take a Stand” town hall conversation to put an election-season spotlight on Social Security issues affecting seniors.
