Congressman Evan Jenkins believes that a safe, modern and efficient transportation system is a critical component of our nation’s welfare. Making wise investments in America’s transportation infrastructure is one of the best ways to help provide an environment to create jobs and economic growth. He is a strong proponent of building and improving the infrastructure that grows our economy and provides the American people with reliable transportation options.
Evan has been a leading champion for reauthorizing a long-term, fully-funded transportation bill. As a lifelong West Virginian, he knows that federal funding for highways and transit is an important part of building and maintaining our nation’s rural infrastructure. West Virginia must have the necessary funding resources to deal with the challenging terrain and weather that impact the cost and lifecycle of their transportation systems.
As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, Evan has advocated for investments that are critical to our economic growth and important to the safety of our citizens. He serves on the committee’s Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Subcommittee, providing West Virginia with an important voice in our nation’s spending on federal roads and infrastructure. The Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Subcommittee has jurisdiction over the U.S. Department of Transportation and related agencies, including Amtrak and the National Transportation Safety Board.
The Appalachian region is comprised of challenging, mountainous terrain that has unique needs separate from other parts of the nation. Evan will be an advocate on behalf of West Virginians for the robust funding necessary to maintain and develop the state’s infrastructure. At every opportunity, he will seek to improve southern West Virginia: its roads and bridges, aviation and rail systems, and water and sewer services.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Evan Jenkins (R-W.Va.) announced today that West Virginia will receive $5 million in emergency relief funds from the Federal Highway Administration to help repair and rebuild flood-damaged federal highways and roads.
This expedited funding will allow our state to immediately begin working to address the catastrophic damage done by storms, flooding, and mudslides.

WASHINGTON – A new EPA rule will hurt West Virginia’s economy and make it harder to attract new employers, U.S. Representative Evan Jenkins (R-W.Va.) said on the House floor Wednesday.
“Counties not in compliance with the new standard could find it even harder to attract and build new developments. In southern West Virginia, that means we might not be able to redevelop our former mine sites to full productivity and potential. It could even halt the much-needed Hobet mine redevelopment,” he said.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Evan Jenkins (R-W.Va.) helped secure $44 billion in funding for our nation’s highways, providing the full amount authorized for fiscal year 2017 by the recently-enacted five-year highway law – the FAST Act.
The $44 billion is included in the fiscal year 2017 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations bill, which the House Appropriations Committee passed unanimously on Tuesday. Rep. Jenkins is a member of the subcommittee responsible for crafting the legislation.

Some are actually seeing progress, like Route 35 in Mason and Putnam counties, which is on schedule to be fully upgraded. Others, like the King Coal Highway, Coalfields Expressway and Tolsia Highway remain in various stages of completion – or lack thereof.

HUNTINGTON - U.S. Rep. Evan Jenkins, R-W.Va., announced that state transportation infrastructure projects are in the driver's seat to receive more than $450 million annually after Congress passed a long-term transportation bill.
Jenkins made the announcement Thursday morning at the West Virginia Division of Highways office in Huntington.
He said that after more than 30 patches to the transportation funding bill, a six-year $350 billion bill was approved by both the House and Senate last week.
