Congressman Rice Fights to Stop Unconstitutional Immigration Executive Actions

Mar 3, 2015
Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Tom Rice (SC-07) released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 240, legislation to fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through fiscal year 2015:

“I am extremely frustrated with recent events in the House of Representatives.  When President Obama announced his immigration executive actions, I told my constituents I would fight them ‘tooth and nail.’  In January, House GOP leaders put forth a plan to defund the President’s executive amnesty.  While I questioned their tactic, they told me they were prepared to fight so I joined them.  When the Senate Democrats blocked our bill, instead of standing united against executive overreach, our House leaders abandoned their plan and capitulated.

“Over the past few days, GOP leaders have united with Democrats to put forth three Homeland Security funding bills: a three-week funding patch, a one-week funding patch, and now funding for the remainder of fiscal year 2015.  I voted against each of bills because I told my constituents I would fight ‘tooth and nail,’ and I will not go back on my word.

“Rest assured, I will continue to fight the President’s executive amnesty and protect the rights of all American citizens.”
