Internships

Congressman Westerman offers internships in the Fourth District’s Washington and Hot Springs offices. The intern program will operate throughout the fall, spring and summer semesters for students. Although all internships are unpaid, students will gain invaluable work experience. The hours are flexible to accommodate students' course schedules, but generally run 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern Time. Congressman Westerman will host interns in both his D.C. and Hot Springs offices.

Washington, D.C.

In Washington, D.C., intern responsibilities will vary. Interns will interact with constituents, research legislation for the Member and legislative staff, attend hearings and briefings, answer constituent letters on various issues before the House, and other work to support the Member’s office. As a result, interns will learn about the legislative process, and the many other functions of a congressional office.

Hot Springs

In the district office, interns may be asked to do a variety of things including day-to-day office work like interacting with constituents, writing letters, and assisting with media clips. In addition, interns may be assigned to assist in various constituent casework or on District-based projects that are of benefit to constituents.
