Frelinghuysen Visits “Frontline States” in Battle Against Islamic Extremism

WASHINGTON, D.C. - House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-NJ) has returned to the United States after a multi-nation oversight mission to several key Middle Eastern nations and Afghanistan. Accompanied by Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-TX), Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee (HASC), the delegation visited Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar, as well as Afghanistan. ...

Frelinghuysen and Thornberry met with key military leaders, including the U.S. Commander in Afghanistan, GEN John Nicholson, and with U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan P. Michael McKinley. The delegation also conferred with the U.S. Ambassador to Iraq, Stewart Jones.

Frelinghuysen also met with many warfighters who call New Jersey home.

Chairman Frelinghuysen and Chairman Thornberry are charged with Congressional oversight of the United States’ efforts to defeat the terrorist threat and support countries in the region that share our values and goals.

It was a pleasure to meet with students from Newark Academy from #Livingston before their U.S. Capitol tour! Thanks for the opportunity to talk!

Congratulations to New Jersey’s #NJTF1 on its inclusion in our nation’s National Urban Search and Rescue System! I know its members, hailing from all 21 counties, will continue to make us proud!

Since well before September 11, 2001, New Jersey Task Force One (NJ-TF1) has shown professionalism and selflessness as it served as our state’s Urban Search and Rescue Team. Today, #FEMA has formally invited #NJTF1 to join the nation’s 28 team National Urban Search & Rescue System... – a recognition of our Task Force’ skill and professionalism and a strong step forward for New Jersey homeland security efforts.

Not only have the members of this team proven they are worthy of such designation – there is no question about it, New Jersey needs its own federally supported team. Frankly, we should have to wait no longer. FEMA should have made this designation years ago!
