Did you know you can watch the Expansion Project’s day-to-day progress on the Expansion Cam? All of the 500+ piles (steel support beams) have been driven into the bedrock and 2,150 trucks of dirt have been removed from the expansion site. Also, the first of two tower cranes was erected on the site in early July. Once completed, the new spaces will provide innovative and accessible experiences for both the artist and audience, including open rehearsal viewing and unique, interactive programming.
The Kennedy Center’s year-long celebration of the centenary of its namesake honors five enduring ideals embodied by President Kennedy—Courage, Freedom, Justice, Service, and Gratitude—through performances and special events from May 29, 2016–May 29, 2017. A special Centennial Water Garden installation illuminates the Center’s central fountain throughout the celebration with 99 “free-blown” glass vessels colored by LED lights. An additional glass vessel will be installed on May 29, 2017, to mark what would have been President Kennedy’s 100th birthday.
