WASHINGTON – Minnesota Congressman John Kline issued the following statement today after the House passed the Iran Terror Finance Transparency Act (H.R. 3662), bipartisan legislation that requires the President to remove Iranian individuals and entities unless they can certify the entity is not a terror financier, human rights abuser, or involved in the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction:

“I remain greatly concerned the Administration’s strategic void abroad left by an unwillingness to assert strong U.S. leadership is having consequences overseas and here at home. Last year, the President identified Iran as a state sponsor of terror. Accordingly, we should be imposing strong sanctions against Iran, not lifting the sanctions we already have, so Iran understands that its behavior and actions will not be tolerated. But the President negotiated a deal to lift sanctions so we are trying to provide needed Congressional oversight to ensure the Administration is doing everything it can to keep the American people safe and ensure the groups we are relieving are not involved in terrorism.”
