WASHINGTON, DC – Today, after it was reported that Janet Reno, the first woman to serve as U.S. Attorney General, passed away at the age of 78, U.S. Senator Jack Reed issued the following statement:

“Janet Reno was a woman of uncommon integrity, intellect, and perseverance.  Through her work as Attorney General, and later with the Innocence Project, she never shied away from tough decisions and didn’t let Parkinson’s disease prevent her from making a positive difference.  We are grateful for her service and mourn her loss.”
