Biography

COUDEN, Henry N., a House Chaplain; born in Madison, Marshall County, Ind., November 21, 1842; served in the Union Army, Sixth Ohio Volunteer Infantry; graduated from the State School for the Blind, Cincinnati, Ohio; T.S., St. Lawrence University, Canton, N.Y., 1878; D.D., St. Lawrence University, Canton, N.Y., 1899; ordained as a Universalist Minister in 1878, in Madrid, N.Y.; pastor; elected Chaplain of the United States House of Representatives for the Fifty-fourth and for the eleven succeeding Congresses (December 2, 1895–March 4, 1921); died August 22, 1922, in Fort Myer, Va.; interment in Arlington Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
