Today I was honored to present Raleigh native Graham Tannery with his WWII military awards. This deserving member of our Nation’s greatest generation was honorably discharged from the Army Air Corps in 1946 but was never issued his medals. It was my pleasure to meet Mr. Tannery and thank him for his service.

I am profoundly saddened to hear that Larry Stogner has passed away. I grew up watching Larry on Channel 11, and later had the honor of getting to know him. He was a true journalist, fair, thorough, and devoted to his craft. I join with his many admirers in sending thoughts and prayers to his family.

Stogner broadcast his final newscast as anchor last year. He has publicly battled ALS.

I voted in favor of H.R. 5931, which will prohibit cash payments to the Government of Iran. President Obama’s story about the $1.7 billion ransom is unraveling. The American public deserves better.

A Treasury Department spokesman acknowledged the U.S. did make payments to the Iranian government via wire transfer.
