Congresswoman Renee Ellmers (R-NC-02) released the following statement ahead of Pope Francis’ arrival into the United States at Joint Base Andrews today at 4 p.m.:

“As a Catholic and a Christian, I am really looking forward to Pope Francis’ arrival in Washington, D.C. this afternoon. I am eager to hear his address to a joint session of Congress on Thursday and am honored to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

Pope Francis will participate in a welcome ceremony at the White House on Wednesday at 9:15 am, which is expected to draw approximately 15,000 people. Following the ceremony around 11:00 am, he will participate in a parade along the Ellipse, which is south of the White House, and the National Mall.

On Thursday, September 24, the Pope will address a joint meeting of the United States Congress around 10:00 am. Following this, he will make an appearance on the West Front of the Capitol at 11:00 am.
