Crapo, Otter to Honor WWII Veterans, Wyakin Warriors Senator will also lead news conference on gun laws and new statistics on federal gun violence

Boise – Idaho Senator Mike Crapo will join Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter to honor two Idaho veterans, aged 91 and 88, who served during World War II.. George Koyama was wounded by a grenade while manning a foxhole and received the Purple Heart. On Thursday, he will receive the Bronze Star and the Commemorative Congressional Gold Medal, in this case the Nisei Soldiers of World War II Bronze Medal. Koyama’s brother, Joe, served stateside at Fort Snelling in Minnesota. He will also receive the Nisei Commemorative Gold Medal at the Governor’s Office for his service. Both men reside in Nampa. The Nisei Soldiers Medal is a duplicate of the Congressional Gold Medal awarded collectively to the 100th Infantry Battalion, 442nd Regimental Combat Team, and Military Intelligence Service of the U.S. Army in recognition of their dedicated service during World War II.
Following the veterans ceremony, Crapo will greet Wyakin Warrior veterans receiving their honors on the Idaho Statehouse steps. The Wyakin Warrior program assists wounded veterans with educational and other services. Crapo will also join Second Amendment advocates, local business leaders and members of the Idaho Legislature to discuss federal gun legislation, new statistics on national gun violence and rights under the Second Amendment during a news conference at Buckhorn Gun and Pawn on Ustick Road in Boise.
