Vitter Wants Interior Nominee Suh To Be Transparent About Federal Contracts

Vitter asked her during her nomination hearing, gives her second chance to completely answer

Thursday January 30, 2014

Today, U.S. Sen. David Vitter (R-La.), top Republican on the Environment and Public Works Committee, sent a letter to Ms. Rhea Suh, Assistant Secretary for Policy Management and Budget the Department of the Interior (Interior). Suh is the nominee to become Assistant Secretary for Fish and Wildlife and Parks at Interior. In the letter, Vitter follows-up on Suh's insufficient response to a question he submitted, following her nomination hearing before the EPW Committee in December. The question, which is attached to the letter, requested specific information about contracts awarded at Interior.

"It is disappointing and alarming to see someone vying for a promotion within the Department of Interior respond to a Congressional request with such little regard for detail and thoroughness," said Vitter. "Unfortunately, when it comes to this Administration on transparency issues, they oftentimes fail to produce legitimate and tangible answers to Congress and the American people. Ms. Suh plays a large role in the convoluted contracting process at Interior, and it's hugely important to make sure that process has been done with transparency and without cronyism."
