If Congress does not act by the end of the year, an arbitrary deadline set by Congress could have a crippling effect on our economy and on your daily commute.

In fact, Metra could be forced to suspend operations if Congress does not act.

Implementing positive train control is vitally important to ensuring that our national rail system provides the utmost level of safety to millions of passengers around the country that depend on our railroads every day. However, when this technology was mandated in 2008, the arbitrary implementation deadline set by Congress did not reflect the high costs and technological challenges of developing and deploying the technology.

Now, with the deadline for implementation looming, if Congress does not extend the deadline, our nation will be faced with a major disruption of passenger and freight rail service that will have far reaching consequences for commuters, businesses and our economy.

I'm working to make sure this doesn't happen. Watch this week's Ask Bob video to learn more.
