More on Military Issues
Thank you to the local veterans who came to my office's resource fair this morning and to all the organizations that participated and shared information about the assistance they provide. I want to offer a special thanks to Marlan Waldrop of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' Houston Regional Benefit Office and Dr. Julianne Flynn of the South Texas Veterans Health Care System's Audie Murphy Hospital who answered folks' questions.
Today I spoke at the Air Force Sergeants Association's convention in San Antonio about ways to support the men and women of the United States Air Force, our nation’s veterans, and our military’s readiness.
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement after the Asia Pacific Subcommittee’s passage of H. Res. 634, a measure of which he is an original cosponsor, that recognizes the importance of the United States-Republic of Korea-Japan trilateral relationship:
On Memorial Day, I joined Edgewood Independent School District for a ceremony honoring San Antonio’s veterans and fallen heroes.
While in Vietnam, Senator Tom Carper (a Vietnam veteran himself), Congressman Beto O'Rourke, and I honored the brave Americans who served in the conflict there. In Hanoi, we paid our respects to the prisoners of war, like Senator John McCain, who were held captive at the Há»a Lò Prison. The day after our tour of the “Hanoi Hilton,” we visited the American Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City. We met with U.S. Ambassador Ted Osius and laid an American flag at the site where the last two Marines to lose their lives in the Vietnam War were killed.
Today I met with members of the 70th Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Wing, which has a unit in San Antonio. It was great to hear about their work, thank them for their service, and congratulate the 70th ISR Wing's Airman of the Year for 2015, Senior Airman Perez.
I met with some admirable U.S. Army War College students today and discussed my work on the Armed Services Committee. It was great to hear about all they're learning and thank them for their service.
San Antonio, TX – Today, Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), member of the House Armed Services Committee, released the following statement after reports of a shooting at Lackland Air Force Base:
Today Secretary of Defense Ash Carter testified before the Armed Services Committee on the Department of Defense’s priorities for the coming year, namely its efforts to fight terrorism and keep the American people safe.
I’m glad the Boys & Girls Clubs of America stopped by my office today to talk about their new program that supports military families.
