Dear Friends,

I recently introduced The Coal Ash Landfill Safety Act (CALSA) to protect citizens from dangerous coal ash that will be dumped in municipal landfills that are not equipped to handle the toxic substance. I do not want Georgia residents or anyone in America – regardless of socio-economic status, neighborhood, race or ethnicity – to be unfairly and unreasonably exposed to toxic chemicals because coal ash is being deposited in inadequately protected facilities near their homes and communities. AFFORDABLE CARE ACT AT 6:  March 23rd marked the 6th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act. In the six years since we passed the ACA, important progress has been made to bring more access to quality, affordable health care. Today, 20 million more Americans have insurance because of the ACA, bringing our uninsured rate to an all-time low. And with new protections and benefits, insurance companies must provide preventive services at no extra cost, can’t cap coverage, and isn’t allowed to discriminate based on pre-existing conditions. BIPARTISAN CLEAN POWER PLAN: I’m pleased to report that I am part of 44 current & former senators & 164 current & former House members from 38 states who filed an Amicus brief on support of President Obama’s Clean Power Plan, a case currently before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia to defend the EPA’s authority to protect public health and the environment.
