Nationwide Borrowers Owe More Than $1.3 Trillion in Debt
Poughkeepsie, NY — Representative Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) joined local students, parents, administrators and advocates for a roundtable at Marist College to discuss skyrocketing student loan debt and making college more affordable for hardworking Hudson Valley families. Last year, the average New Yorker with college loans owed $32,200, which is roughly $3,500 higher than the national average – and nationwide student borrowers owe more than $1.3 trillion in debt.
Newburgh, NY – Representative Sean Patrick Maloney announced that his office has secured over $6 million for Hudson Valley veterans, small businesses and families who were owed payments by the federal government. Rep. Maloney’s constituent advocates assisted over 3,500 individual constituents with cases involving the Social Security Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Approximately half of the funds were returned to over 800 veterans, service members, and their families.

Washington, D.C. – Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) announced the grand prize winner of the 2014 Congressional Art Competition, winners for each medium, and a Facebook Fan Favorite at a reception for students and their families yesterday. In March, Rep. Maloney invited high school students in the 18th Congressional District to submit an entry to the annual art contest, and a panel of local artists judged the entries. This year, more than 50 students participated in the art competition, and their work is currently on display at his Newburgh Office.
