Johanns Votes To Fund Troops And Keep Terrorists Out Of U.S.

U.S. Senator Mike Johanns today voted in favor of funding for American troops and to prohibit the use of taxpayer dollars to transfer Guantanamo Bay detainees to the United States. The 2009 Supplemental Appropriations Act will fund U.S. military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan for Fiscal Year 2009. The amendment to prevent the transfer of any Guantanamo detainees to the U.S. also bars the funding for the closure of the Guantanamo detention facilities. Johanns co-sponsored the amendment, which passed 90-6. The final legislation passed 86-3.

"Our military is the best in the world, and it must be provided with the resources necessary to defend America and its allies," Johanns said. "I also feel very strongly about keeping terrorists locked up far from any American community to protect our nation while upholding our moral obligations."
