Tour the United States Capitol


The Capitol is home to the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. Through films, exhibits, tours, and floor proceedings you will learn about how Congress works, how this magnificent building was constructed, and how citizens can participate in this extraordinary experiment called representative democracy.

Availability

  • Capitol Tours are available Monday and Saturday, 8:45am-3:30pm. To schedule this tour, please fill out the form below.
  • Same-Day Capitol Tours have limited availability and are given Monday-Saturday, 8:45am - 3:30pm. To schedule this tour, please visit the Information Desk located on the lower level of the Visitor Center.
  • The Capitol Visitor Center is closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, and Inauguration Day.
  • Due to the high volume of requests, we do recommend that you submit your tour request at least three (3) months in advance. However, tour requests can be submitted same day to three (3) months prior to your requested tour date.
  • Senate and House Galleries are accessible Monday-Friday, whenever either legislative body is in session. Additionally, when the House of Representatives is not in session, the House Gallery is accessible Monday-Friday, 9am- 4:15pm. Further, when the Senate is not in session, the Senate Gallery is accessible during scheduled recesses of one week or more from Monday-Friday, 9am- 4:15pm. Gallery Tickets can be picked up in our office at 112 Hart Senate Office Building, Washington, D.C. 20510.
