Senator Ensign: Senate Passes Reckless Budget

This week, the United States Senate passed a budget that will chart our country on a path toward bankrupting our children and grandchildren. The Democrat budget will tax, borrow, and spend $3.7 trillion, changing the America we have all enjoyed for decades and further rooting America’s dependence on China and foreign nations.  World leaders have expressed their outrage at the Democrat budget; fearing it will bring the world economy to its knees.  As the President of the European Union bluntly stated, “this budget is a road to hell.”
Republican amendments to the Democrat budget were defeated on party lines.  I offered an amendment to uphold Obama’s campaign pledge that he would not raise taxes on the low- and middle-income tax payers.  This passed the Senate unanimously—although Democrats have pledged that it will be stripped from the final budget bill during the House and Senate conference committees.
Unfortunately, the financial burden placed on low- and middle-income American families does not have quite the same following from Democrats when the campaign is over.

Experiencing the Senate First Hand
During the summer months, college students from all over the country swarm the nation’s capital to gain a unique perspective on the legislative process.  As an intern, students learn the ins and outs of the Senate and truly become a valuable member of the team.  My office has developed a fantastic internship program that is fast becoming one of the best on the Hill.  I would encourage all interested Nevadans to inquire further about being an intern in one of my offices.  I promise it will be an experience that you won’t soon forget.   Also, if you are in high school or are in college, but cannot come to Washington, my state offices have exciting internship opportunities that are sure to be a learning experience, as well.

Elko High School Band Rings in the Cherry Blossoms
Congratulations to the talented students of the Elko High School band.  These terrific musicians marched in front of thousands of American and international tourists, alike, in the Cherry Blossom parade this week.  The Cherry Blossom festival is one of the most beautiful times in Washington, D.C., and I am certain that these students had a memorable week.
