Today we meet to consider the second and third tranches of disaster assistance for the families suffering from the effects of Hurricane Sandy. In the dying days of the 112th Congress, we passed legislation granting FEMA the authority to increase by up to $9.7 billion its borrowing so that the agency could continue paying homeowners insurance claims associated with the hurricane.
Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen joined US Senators Barbara A. Mikulski and Ben Cardin (all D-MD) and other members of Maryland’s Congressional Delegation in sending a letter to President Barack Obama supporting Governor O’Malley’s updated request for Individual Assistance for Lower Shore counties which experienced the most severe damage as a result Super-Storm Sandy. Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen issued the following statement applauding the selection of former Frederick Police Chief Kim Dine as the new Chief of the United States Capitol Police force:

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen and U.S Senators Ben Cardin and Barbara A. Mikulski (all D-MD) visited the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Gateway Center today to award $40 million to Montgomery County and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority (WMATA) for a new pedestrian underpass at the Medical Center Metro station. The funding is part of an $89 million series of grants to the county and state for BRAC-related transportation.
