Rockville, MD
Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen announced that the Silver Spring Fire Department has been awarded $112,045 in federal funding through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Fire Prevention and Safety grants, a part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grants Program and in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration. The program supports projects that enhance the safety of the public and firefighters from fire and related hazards, with the primary goal of reducing injury and preventing death among high-risk populations.

“Our first responders selflessly put their lives on the line day-in and day-out to protect our community,” said Congressman Van Hollen. “This important funding will help give the Silver Spring Fire Department the resources necessary to educate the community about fire prevention and safety. I will continue to work to ensure that our brave firefighters are receiving the training, education, and resources that they need to do their jobs and keep our families safe.”
