Washington, D.C. – As the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) considers new rules to rein in predatory practices in payday and similar types of lending, Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) joined Senators Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Dick Durbin (D-IL), Chris Coons (D-DE) and 28 colleagues to send a letter to CFPB Director Richard Cordray to express their support today for the initial steps the agency has taken and urged the agency to issue the strongest possible rules to combat the 'cascade of devastating financial consequences' that these high-priced loans often have on consumers.

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) spoke on the Senate floor today in opposition to Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) legislation – also known as “fast track” – which would allow the Administration to negotiate and pass trade deals like the 12-nation Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) without the chance for Congress to amend the agreements to protect American workers, the environment and public health.

The Senate Rules Committee is responsible for the administration of congressional buildings and services.
