Hudson Helps Advance Landmark Mental Health Reform
 
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (NC-08), member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, released the following statement after the House passed the Helping Families in Mental Health Crisis Act (H.R. 2646), bipartisan legislation to significantly reform our nation’s mental health care system:
 
“With millions of Americans suffering from serious mental illness who are struggling to find or receive proper care, it’s clear mental health care reform is long overdue. Today’s bipartisan legislation streamlines programs and resources so patients can get effective treatment when they need it. I’m proud of the progress we’ve made to address the shortfalls in our nation’s broken mental health care system while providing hope for countless patients and their families.”
 
Rep. Hudson and the Energy and Commerce Committee, led by Chairman Fred Upton (MI-06) and Rep. Tim Murphy (PA-18), have been working on a meaningful bipartisan solution to reform our nation’s failing mental health care system. After extensive research, input from stakeholders, and substantive conversations, the Committee unanimously passed H.R. 2646 by a vote of 53-0. The bipartisan legislation aims to fix the nation’s broken mental health system by refocusing programs, reforming grants, and removing barriers to care.
