Tour The Library of Congress


The Library of Congress is the nation's oldest federal cultural institution and serves as the research arm of Congress. It is also the largest library in the world, with nearly 128 million items on approximately 530 miles of bookshelves. The collections include more than 29 million books and other printed materials, 2.7 million recordings, 12 million photographs, 4.8 million maps, and 57 million manuscripts. Constituents receive a tour of the Thomas Jefferson Building and an introduction to the "American Treasures" exhibition.

Availability

  • Library of Congress Tours are available Monday - Friday, 9:45am - 1:45pm.
  • Library of Congress Tours are closed on Sundays and federal holidays.
  • Due to the high volume of requests, we do recommend that you submit your tour request at least three (3) months in advance. However, tour requests can be submitted between six (6) weeks to three (3) months prior to your requested tour date.
