The Budget and Economic Outlook: 2016 to 2026

CBO estimates that the federal budget deficit in 2016 will be $544 billion, raising debt held by the public to 76 percent of GDP. Solid short-term growth in the economy is projected to be followed by slower growth in subsequent years.

To aid the Congress in its work on the 2017 budget resolution, CBO released the summary of The Budget and Economic Outlook: 2016 to 2026 a week in advance of the full report on January 19, 2016.

On March 10, 2016, CBO reposted the file conveying data underlying the figures in the report; the updated file corrects an error in how the data for Figure 2-10 were arrayed.
