Boustany Legislation Honoring Abbeville Native Becomes Law

(Washington, DC) – Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., M.D. (R-South Louisiana) issued the following statement after President Obama recently signed into law legislation to designate the “Sergeant Richard Franklin Abshire Post Office” in Abbeville, Louisiana. The legislation was approved by both the United States House of Representatives and Senate before receiving the President’s signature:

“The Town of Abbeville is proud of its fallen native son and this honor recognizes Sergeant Abshire’s valor and selfless service.  Sergeant Abshire was the highest decorated veteran of the Vietnam War from Vermilion Parish. Today, I join his hometown in honoring this fallen hero with the dedication of its Post Office in the name of Sergeant Richard Franklin Abshire for his extraordinary valor in battle.

“As we honor Sergeant Abshire, we must also recognize our present-day heroes serving around the globe - those who have fallen and those who continue to fight. We thank the members of our Armed Services as well as their families. Sergeant Abshire’s example carries through to our current servicemembers around the world. I am proud and thankful to have this legislation approved to honor Sergeant Abshire.”
