Boustany Strongly Opposes Obama Nominee Threatening Jobs in Louisiana

(Washington, DC)  – Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., M.D., (R-South Louisiana) issued the following statement after recently signing a letter addressed to United States Senators Mary Landrieu and David Vitter of Louisiana encouraging their support in standing against Obama nominee Rhea Suh to the position of Assistant Secretary for Fish, Wildlife, and Parks at the Department of the Interior:

"If Louisiana's leaders in Washington don't protect the state, who will? I firmly believe our nation's domestic energy production continues to serve a vital role in creating jobs and growing America's economy. For the last five years, the policies and actions of the Department of the Interior have caused great harm to our state in the form of a drilling moratorium in the Gulf Coast and a restriction of energy production on federal lands. Our state has suffered enough. It cannot afford more of the same. Failing to comprehend the importance of key sectors such as the domestic energy industry, this nominee is a threat to jobs and our way of life in Louisiana. I urge our two senators to join with me in putting the interest of our state and its citizens first in standing against this nominee."
