Mark Reed became Capitol Building Superintendent for the Architect of the Capitol (AOC) in May 2016. In this role, Mr. Reed is responsible for the day-to-day structural, mechanical and domestic care of the Capitol Building and the Capitol Visitor Center.

Mr. Reed comes to the Capitol Building jurisdiction from the House Office Buildings, where he first joined the AOC in 2004 as a Fire Protection Engineer. In 2007, he was promoted to the position of Assistant Superintendent, and in 2012 to Deputy Superintendent.

Prior to joining the AOC, Mr. Reed served as a consulting engineer for a national fire protection and building code consulting firm and worked on the design and renovation of multiple, mixed-use construction projects. He received his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts – Lowell and earned his Master's degree in Fire Protection Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
