Boustany Continues Fight for Healthcare Rights of Nation's Veterans

(Washington, DC) – Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., M.D., (R-South Louisiana) issued the following statement after introducing H.R. 2913, the Veterans’ Local Access Act, in addition to writing a letter to Congressional leadership fighting for healthcare rights of America’s veterans:

“Recently, the CBS Evening News aired a story on the terrible conditions veterans in Lafayette and Lake Charles face to receive healthcare treatments. Unfortunately, this situation is not unique to Lake Charles or Louisiana. This same exact scenario plays out on a daily basis in communities across the country as countless veterans face the same conditions due to bureaucratic red tape coming out of Washington.

“I introduced legislation, H.R. 2913, authorizing the 27 leases requested by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. This legislation provides local healthcare access to veterans across America. It cuts through the red tape and addresses the issues facing our nation’s brave veterans. I also sent a letter to Congressional leadership in both the House and Senate to join in my effort to resolve this issue. Enough with the broken promises, now is the time to bring closure to this unfortunate situation.”
