Tsongas to speak at Dedication of Winchendon Grand Army of the Republic Park

September 28, 2016 -- Congresswoman Niki Tsongas will speak at the dedication of the Winchendon Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Park on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at 1:00pm. The dedication is in honor of recent renovations, including new walkways, restored cannons, newly planted trees and an updated gazebo.

The Winchendon Grand Army of the Republic Park was erected in 1889 to honor the 294 men who fought in the Civil War, including the 56 Winchendon men who died on the battlefield or from diseases and war related hardships. Their names, companies and regiments are inscribed on the Soldiers’ Monument inside the park.

The event will feature a wreath-laying at the Soldiers’ Monument, Civil War-era music, and a reenactment of the “Gettysburg Address”.
