April 3, 2016 Survey
What solutions do you support to address the national debt?
April 1, 2016 Weekly Report
I’m not surprised to hear how frustrated folks across southwest and central Iowa are with the federal government’s reckless spending and the nation’s skyrocketing national debt. This is the reoccurring message our friends and neighbors share with me at my town hall meetings, during telephone town halls, visits across our District, and in the letters and calls I receive.
February 19, 2016 Weekly Report
Growing up in Van Meter, I learned the value of a dollar as a young boy, waking up early to deliver newspapers to the folks in our community. After moving to Johnston as a teenager, I spent my summers in the hot sun working at the Iowa State Fair or as a decontamination aide at a hospital. In college in Des Moines, I waited tables at a restaurant. My parents and grandparents instilled in me a strong Iowa work ethic - I worked hard - while knowing that anyone who puts in the time, the effort and the energy can achieve endless opportunity in this great country.
February 12, 2016 Weekly Report
The Obama Administration kicked off the annual budgeting process with their 2017 request to Congress. In the U.S. House of Representatives, my colleagues and I are reviewing the proposal and writing our own budget proposal which we'll unveil, and vote on our federal fiscal blueprint in the coming weeks. I will only support a budget that balances, doesn't raise taxes, holds the line on spending and makes government more efficient and effective for hardworking Iowans.
February 5, 2016 Weekly Report
As I travel each of the 16 counties of the Third Congressional District each month, Iowans often tell me they haven’t seen a raise in their paychecks in years, or that their incomes have never recovered from the 2008 recession. I hear from parents who sit down around the kitchen table at night and try to figure out how to stretch every dollar to provide for their families and their retirement. Folks are constantly reevaluating every expense to see if they can still afford it. As your U.S Representative in Congress, I try to take that same level of scrutiny to every line of the federal budget.
January 29, 2016 Weekly Report
When Iowans talk to me about government being the problem and not the solution, they often point to the ever increasing federal machine that strangles our economy and job creation in Iowa and across the country.
January 8, 2016 Weekly Report
This week marks one year since I was sworn in as your U.S. Representative for Iowa’s Third Congressional District. With priorities in mind to make your federal government more efficient, accessible, accountable and transparent, I came to Congress humbled to be your voice in Washington, and to make the hard choices that deliver real results.
November 8, 2015 Survey

On October 28 I voted against The Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015, because hardworking Iowa taxpayers deserve a federal government that acts responsibly, spends within its means, and balances its budget. This deal spends money we don't have by exceeding responsible spending levels.
