Pompeo Demands Investigation into Alleged ‘Quid Pro Quo’ Arrangements between State Department and FBI

WICHITA, KS– Congressman Mike Pompeo (R-KS) issued a statement today after sending a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry and Attorney General Loretta Lynch regarding newly released documents showing that Undersecretary of State Pat Kennedy sought to barter FBI overseas positions in exchange for FBI cooperation in downgrading the classification of Secretary Clinton’s emails.

Pompeo said, "The integrity of our government and the trust of the American people are far too important to be sacrificed for any one official.  Undersecretary Kennedy’s apparent attempt to cover up for Secretary Clinton cannot stand.  Our government cannot operate on ‘quid pro quo’ arrangements.”

Pompeo called on General Lynch “to immediately launch an investigation into these allegations.”  He also asked Secretary Kerry “to place Undersecretary Kennedy on a leave of absence, and revoke his security clearance, until this investigation is completed."

Pompeo serves on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.  He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, an Army veteran, and ran two small businesses before joining Congress in 2011.
