Agriculture is an essential part of the economy and identity of the Fourth Congressional District of Kansas. We must ensure that Kansas’ farmers and ranchers are afforded a regulatory and trade environment that allows them to thrive and prosper. First of all, Congress must ensure that farmers and ranchers have access to open and free markets to sell their goods. The regulatory atmosphere imposed by the federal government is equally important. Onerous regulations and the threat of future rules add costs to production and create uncertainty in an industry that requires long-term planning and investment. As a member of the House Committee on Energy & Commerce, I am particularly concerned by the impact of “conservation” practices forced onto farmers by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Farmers and ranchers are wonderful stewards of their land and their livestock. They know that will protect them to ensure the longevity of their operations. I am committed to fighting for our agricultural community in Congress.
