Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) praised Ohio State Auditor Dave Yost for his testimony before the House Committee on Agriculture yesterday regarding his findings of waste, fraud and abuse within Ohio’s food stamp program.

Rep. Jordan made the following comments:

“The US has over 75 federally-funded, means-tested welfare programs, many of which have examples of waste, fraud and abuse.  Dave Yost has done a good job as state auditor in pointing out some of the problems that need to be fixed in Ohio, and he has correctly pointed out that at the federal level we need to make sure SNAP and other programs spend taxpayer dollars wisely and according to the law.  It's a shame he had to deal with a little ‘Washington politics’ in order to make his point, but I applaud him and his office for speaking the truth and promoting reforms that will restore confidence in these programs by making sure we minimize fraud and incentivize hard work.”

Rep. Jordan recently introduced H.R. 5360, the Welfare Reform and Upward Mobility Act of 2016, a bill to reform the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The bill is sponsored in the Senate by Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah).

Sen. Lee recently co-authored an op-ed with Reps. Jordan and Mark Meadows (R-North Carolina) about H.R. 5360 that appeared online at NationalReview.com. To read the op-ed, click here: http://www.nationalreview.com/article/435852/welfare-reform-upward-mobility-act-bill-marriage-work-rewarded
