Thanksgiving is a holiday rooted in American tradition, engrained in hundreds of years of being grateful for all we have. In looking forward to Thanksgiving this year, I am reminded of how truly thankful I am to live in this great nation, and grateful for those who serve to protect it.

Rarely a day passes without a frustrated Iowan showing me cancellation letters from their insurance plans, or bills depicting how their monthly insurance premiums now match the same monthly cost of their mortgage payments. This sentiment - how the Affordable Care Act (ACA) health care law is failing folks - is echoed in many of the letters, emails and phone calls I receive.

It is my honor to advocate and put forth policy solutions on behalf of Iowans in the Third Congressional District. In a major victory for folks in Iowa and across the country, three pieces of legislation I introduced were approved by the U.S. House of Representatives with overwhelming, bipartisan support. These recent legislative accomplishments illustrate that when Congress puts aside their differences, and gets behind meaningful legislation, we make substantial progress on issues that matter to you and your neighbors.

This week I hosted my second annual Veterans Care Fairs in Des Moines and Treynor to provide Iowa veterans and their families with information and resources about benefits, programs and services available to them.
