Fellow Marylanders:

I am honored to continue representing you in Congress.

There is still much to do, but I am convinced that the best is yet to come for us all.

I believe our goals moving forward are clear, and remain unchanged: get Americans back to work, continue supporting our economy’s recovery, promote and protect educational access, and get back to the business of serving ALL Americans.

Here are a few of the ways I have worked towards those goals since last I wrote you:
  • U.S. Department of Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, Baltimore City Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and I hosted a jobs workshop in September.

  • In my capacity as Ranking Member on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, I launched an investigation into widespread voter suppression efforts. You may read more about these investigations on the Committee’s website here, here and here.

  • I was proud to host an informative and resourceful forum for small business owners to learn about tools for success, co-hosted by the Maryland Small Business Development Center.

  • Hundreds of students joined Baltimore City Public Schools (BCPS) CEO Dr. Andres Alonso, BCPS Learning to Work Director Michael Thomas, and me at the reopening of the Great Kids Farm on National Food Day. Great Kids Farm is literally saving our children’s lives by educating them on how to lead healthier, longer lives and how to make wise food decisions.

  • I met with the residents of the Belvedere Improvement Association and shared insight on what shapes my policy decisions.

Next month, on December 10th, I will host my 16th Annual How to Pay for College Seminar from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Enoch Pratt Free Library at 400 Cathedral Street. I invite students and parents to join me for this free event to learn about financial resources for college and how to prepare to pursue higher education.

Ours is a heavy burden: fighting to ensure the world we leave to our children and children’s children is better than what we inherited. However, with your support, I remain confident and committed that we can achieve this goal together.
