Governor Bob McDonnell to Deliver the Weekly Republican Address
February 10, 2012
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell announced today that Gov. Bob McDonnell (R-VA), chairman of the Republican Governors Association, will deliver the weekly Republican address on Saturday.
“Bob McDonnell has compiled an outstanding record as governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and I’m pleased to announce that he will deliver the Republican Weekly Address on Saturday,” said Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell. “He’s kept taxes low, regulation and litigation to a minimum and invested wisely for Virginia’s future in economic development, education and transportation.”
Governor McDonnell said: “Every American deserves the opportunity of a good job. Republicans are committed to helping the private sector create those jobs by making government more efficient and effective, and putting in place policies that help spur private sector job creation and economic growth. When we reduce taxation, litigation and regulation, and enact responsible, limited budgets, we free our job creators to succeed and grow. Republican governors are demonstrating this in the states, and I look forward to talking about the positive work Republicans are doing to help ensure more of our citizens can find good work in the communities that they call home.”
Bob McDonnell was sworn in as the 71st governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia on January 16, 2010. In his two years in office, McDonnell has closed two budget shortfalls without raising taxes and finished his first two fiscal years in office with budget surpluses, while unemployment in the state has fallen to 6.2%.
