McConnell-Sponsored Bill to Increase COLAs for Kentucky Veterans is Signed into Law
September 26, 2014
STANFORD, KY – U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell released the following statement today upon the President signing into law S. 2258 Veterans' Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act of 2014:
“As a longtime supporter of COLA increases for veterans and military retirees, I was proud to cosponsor this legislation and I am very pleased it was signed into law today. This is great news for our nation’s veterans who sacrificed to defend our country and our freedom and we remain deeply indebted to our heroes. This law will increase disability compensation for our veterans in an effort to help provide Kentucky’s veterans and their survivors with the support they deserve.”
Most recently, Senator McConnell voted against a reduction in COLA benefits for military retirees that was authorized in the December 2013 budget agreement. He later introduced a measure to reinstate this full benefit and voted for legislation enacted in February 2014 that reinstated the full COLA for all military retirees.
