McConnell Statement on Tax Day
April 15, 2010
WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell made the following statement Thursday regarding Tax Day:
“Every April 15th Americans get a painful reminder of just how much money the government takes out of their pay checks. This year Americans had to work for two months to cover federal tax obligations alone. Shockingly, that’s still not enough to fund the bureaucratic beast in Washington. This year the Democrats’ budget will lead to a $1.4 trillion deficit and trillion dollar annual deficits after that. Any household knows that if you can’t make ends meet, you cut spending. Democrats in Washington see things differently. Their answer is to spend even more money, then dream up new ways to impose European-style taxes on already-struggling American families and small businesses. In the middle of a deep recession and at a time of record deficits, the Administration also plans to allow taxes to rise dramatically on families, farmers, and small businesses at the end of this year. On this Tax Day, Americans should continue to remind their leaders to get their financial house in order and make it easier, not harder, to raise families and create jobs.
