VA Secretary Confirms Brownsboro Road as the Site for the New Robley Rex VA Medical Center
June 28, 2012
Washington, DC – U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell made the following statement Thursday regarding the Department of Veterans Affairs' announcement on the location of the new Robley Rex VA Medical Center:
“Now that the Department of Veterans Affairs has finally selected a location for the Robley Rex VA Medical Center, work can begin on the new state-of-art facility, which will ensure that the men and women who so bravely served our country will receive the quality health care they deserve. The construction on the new VA hospital has been a top priority of mine, and I’m pleased the VA Secretary made the decision. Our veterans have waited long enough; it’s time to get construction underway.”
Background: In 2008, Senator McConnell secured $75 Million for the new VA Medical Center. In 2009, McConnell introduced and helped pass legislation to name the current and future hospital after Kentucky veteran, Robley Rex. In the intervening years, the Senator time and again urged the VA to consider input from Kentucky veterans before deciding on a location for the new VAMC. While the Senator has never endorsed a particular site, he succeeded in getting the VA to commit to a timeline for a final decision and then repeatedly urged the VA to do all it could to comply with that deadline.
